The background here is that a huge percentage of Rio is covered in slums that were once run my brutal drugloards and young men looking for a way to make a living.

Well in the course of a very short period of time and after several very high-prifile military operations, they took the streets back.  The sad part is that it took the world cup and olympics coming to Rio to get them to finally clean up the slums.

20-year-old Geisy Arruda, a tourism student at Uniban, showed up to class wearing a pink mini-dress and a lot of make-up on her face. At any elementary school in the US, they would’ve made fun of her for dressing like a prudish pilgrim. But at Uniban, a mob of students followed her everywhere she went and repeatedly called her a whore. Some of the dude students threatened to rape her and others tried to take pictures of her crotch with their phones. Shit got so real that the police were brought in to escort Geisy out of the school.

Shay Maria, born and raised in Southern California; she began dancing at the age of four and has been in love with dance ever since. Prior to high school, she performed for several entertainment venues including Knotts’ Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Carnival Cruise Lines. She was privileged enough to attend the Orange County High School of the Performing Arts, where she studied and excelled in all forms of dance including ballet, lyrical, modern, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. She currently is a backup dancer and one of the choreographers for Chanel, aka CC the Rapping Receptionist from Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.
